August 23rd ultrasound
We are very excited!! Trish and Nolan are super excited. We were able to see clear pictures of all ten fingers and tiny toes. Little Bambino was observed doing arm curls...four in a row. Perfect posture and form of course.
Allegra predicted a girl for 2 reasons:
1) She dreamt it was a girl once.
2) We had some boy names picked out, but not one girl name.
We decided to combine the top three Italian and Native American baby girl names...
Italian names + Native American names = our choices
Chiara + Peta (golden Eagle) = Chiapet
Adrianna + Winona (1st daughter) = Adriannawinona
Mara + Shania (little sister) = Mania
but alas we think we will go with Dynavox!
A girl.....nervousing and exciting!!!!

went to the doctor and the doctor said....
I met her doctor. We were able to listen to bambinos heart-beat. It sounds like he is running a marathon in there. The strong heartbeat was said to be a positive indicator of a healthy pregnancy. Yayyyy.
I find it amusing that my crazy Allegra has a crazy doctor. She came into the room with her straigh sandy hair pulled back into a conservative librarian braid. She donned super-sized glasses that were all the rave in 1973. She also wore sandals that revealed her sparkling ruby red toe nails and one toe ring cutting off the circulation of a chubby middle toe.
Allegra asked if she could deliver the baby in a different birthing unit that is a bit of a drive, but brand new and beautiful. Dr. Ruby Toes went into a 15 minute diatribe of how horrible it would be if anything went awry. The suggested birthing place is beautiful but absent of any emergency staff in house. If the mother would need medical attention, docs would have to be called in; if the newborn would need medical attention, they would transport the baby to a different hospital. She explained that she is far too high strung to deal with that. Dr. Ruby Toes, then described a situation where a low -risk pregnant woman had her 4th child and things went a bit wrong. She unflinchingly used words like 'blood gush' and 'shriek of surpise' while looking at my winced and horrified face.
At the end of September, Allegra will have an ultra-sound and we will know if it is a boy or a girl and how many fingers and toes it has.
We all will be happy with either, but when forced to opine, Nolan would like a girl, I would like a boy, and Allegra would like a boy....no a girl.....yes a girl.....nooo a boy....ok she does not know.
Any name ideas for us?

Due date announced!!!
the ultrasound:
allegra and i arrive at the office. allegra is a nice shade of pale green, shuffling along with her vomit bags. the receptionist, whom allegra knows and likes, comments that allegra shouldn't wear that green hoodie while she is green. the receptionist (mitsy) tells allegra that she looks like a carnival!
allegra responds with, "uh huh, get me in and out as fast as you can"
the ultrasound person is super nice. the mash of cells that will become a sleep depriving vamp is too small for ultrasound one, so they pull out the more intense ultrasound. allegra is preparing for the two week verdict.
7 weeks!!!
march 5th is the prediction.
allegra was feeling better. we went for a nutrition consultation in a tiny windowless smelly office to discuss allegra's protein, calcium, and iron intake. this was a concern because allegra does not do milk or meat.
allegra's color went from a light tan to pale green immediately.
boom.
like turning on a light.
allegra knew more than the nutritionist...
allegra walks around the house with her security bucket. she drives around with her security bags. luckily, she has not needed them. she continues to be super tired, and recently has vertigo.
she said she now knows what is like to be kevin schofield and enjoy lounging on the couch flipping through channels. she is usually to ADD to do this, always needs to be doing something, and in true ADD style never really finishing anything.
scooping cat boxes is growing tiresome

We told Nolan
so we told nolan. he was not convinced. we had to promise to be telling the truth and swear on dead relatives that allegra was pregnant.
after he accepted this as fact, he was SUPER excited. running around jabbering the names of the people he would need to call, calculating how old he would be when the baby would be five and standing his ground on not wanting to share a room.
he is super sweet to allegra and commands me to do things for her. he reminds her to drink water and to watch what she eats or drinks. NO BOOZE cuz the baby will get booze.
he needed to be reassured that he cannot get sick like allegra, that the symptoms were not contagious.
nolan rocks.
sidenote:3 years ago, nolan informed us that we were NOT allowed to have a child. he didn't want to have a sibling. so we were happy with his excitement and support.

day one never ends
i now find out that the clinic called 911 and that the young nurses wanted her to go to the ER.
here she is either updating koop or getting medical advice from katie
day one continues
sigh
day one
last week, sam was kicked out of mps rec club. allegra cried......CRIED....ALLEGRA! when we were in the parking lot, i asked what the hell was wrong with her, she never cries. she was embarassed and perplexed and made an off the cuff, "maybe i am pregnant" comment. she was indeedy pregnant, but for reasons not to devulged here, we thought that was all but an impossible reality.
reality shocker...EPT says allegra is pregnant!!!!
we are stunned, shocked, happy, overwhelmed, excited and nervous. we both want a baby. we both want allegra to sail through without a lot of discomfort. she has been slammed with discomfort, and it is only the beginning.
questions:
who do we tell now? when do we tell everybody? when do we tell our parents? when do we tell nolan? what will we do about sam?
do i REALLY have to clean those disgusting filthy torrid litterboxes? is a child worth that much suffering?
allegra is off to get bloodwork done. i am off to pick up nolan from his dreaded 3 night camp. i need to have a pregnancy book to read and reference often. allegra needs to have her docs and friends with children guide her.
day one. please let this blog continue for 9 months!
